Common questions

What hardware do I need?

WifiFee works with TP-Link Omada local controllers (OC200, OC300, or software controller). You'll need Omada EAPs (access points) for WiFi coverage. If your controller isn't accessible from the internet, you'll also need a device running Tailscale for secure connectivity.

How long does setup take?

Most venues are up and running within an hour. Our setup wizard guides you through connecting your Omada controller, configuring your pricing tiers, and linking your Stripe account. If you already have Omada hardware installed, you can be taking payments the same day.

Does it work with my existing router?

WifiFee requires TP-Link Omada hardware specifically - consumer routers won't work. However, Omada works alongside your existing internet connection. You'll typically add Omada access points and a controller to create a separate guest network, leaving your private network untouched.

What happens if the internet goes down?

If your internet connection fails, guests won't be able to connect or pay - that's a limitation of any captive portal system. Active sessions will be interrupted. However, once connectivity is restored, guests can reconnect. For venues where uptime is critical, we recommend a backup internet connection.

How do guests pay?

When guests connect to your WiFi, they see a captive portal with your pricing options. They can pay via credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay (Stripe Checkout) on their phone or laptop. Once payment completes, they're instantly connected.

When do I get paid?

Payments go directly to your Stripe account (minus our 10% fee and Stripe's processing fees). Stripe typically pays out within 2-7 days depending on your country.

Is there a monthly fee?

No. WifiFee has no monthly fees, no setup costs, and no minimum commitments. We only charge a 10% platform fee on each guest payment. If you don't make any sales, you pay nothing.

Can I set my own prices?

Absolutely. You have complete control over your pricing tiers. Set hourly rates, day passes, weekly access - whatever works for your venue. You can also control bandwidth speeds for each tier, offering faster speeds at premium prices.

Can I offer free WiFi too?

Absolutely. Many venues offer a free tier (e.g., 30 minutes at 5 Mbps) alongside paid options. Free tiers are a great way to get guests connected while encouraging upgrades for longer or faster access.

Is WifiFee GDPR compliant?

Yes. We collect minimal data - just what's needed for WiFi authentication and payment processing. Guest device MAC addresses are required by the Omada system for authentication, and payment data is handled securely by Stripe. We don't track browsing activity or sell data.

Can I use this for multiple venues?

Yes, you can create separate accounts for each venue. Each venue gets its own dashboard, pricing tiers, and Stripe connection. This keeps revenue tracking clean and allows different pricing strategies per location.

Is there a contract or commitment?

No contracts, no lock-in. You can stop using WifiFee at any time. Since there's no monthly fee, you're only charged when guests make purchases. Your Omada hardware continues to work independently if you decide to stop using our service.
